Fungal burden of disease in New Zealand. View burden in New Zealand
How you have helped GAFFI: The GAFFI approach to estimating the fungal burden has been used for the New Zealand setting. New Zealand has extremely good national databases that can be readily searched and provide excellent tools for epidemiological studies. This data provides as useful addition to the data set being complied by GAFFI for international comparisons.
Personal comment on the major needs in New Zealand which GAFFI should be addressing: The major issue identified is the high burden of aspergillus related respiratory disease. This is driven both by the high rates of asthma and the high rates of environmental exposure that occurs form the vigorous farming and horticultural sectors, and the high rates of home gardening.
New approaches to reducing this burden are sorely needed
